And so it begins...

Last night was the first night, Judd and I noticed Luke sucking his thumb. My first thought was to break the habit now before it begins. Neither one of us was sure of what to do. I reached down to him in his bouncy chair, and gently pulled his thumb out. Smiles from Judd and I. Then about two minutes later it was back in. There's just something about thumb sucking that seems natural. Soothing. We let it be.

This morning while Savvy and I were having breakfast, I snuck (is snuck a word?) a peek at him and there he was in our oversized bed, dozing away with his thumb in his mouth. It makes me wonder what Adam and Eve did. Did they interfere? Did they frown upon thumb sucking? Did they look at their precious bundle and overflow with love regardless of the digit in Cain's mouth...?

Hmmmm....

Anything other than leaving it in just doesn't feel right. Savannah started out the same way. At 3-4 months, (Luke's age now) she traded in the pacy for her thumb. I can't count the number of people who have warned me about the cost of braces and the horror stories they've shared with me. Our pediatrician says not to worry about it. He'll address it at age two. Sav's due to be addressed in about 2-3 months, I'm curious as to what he'll say. I've, of course, googled all I can regarding thumb sucking and have found that the information just goes around in circles.

For now, as the New Yorkers say, "It is what it is!"
